Name: J.R. Revelry Bourbon Whiskey
Nose: Corn, Spice, Brown Sugar, Vanilla
Palate: Sweet corn, oak, fresh cinnamon, vanilla, and fresh fruit.
Finish: Moderate and straightforward with flavors of fresh ground cinnamon and oak.
Overall: J.R. Revelry is a unique bourbon with great flavor profile. This whiskey pours a medium amber color. It is straightforward in its flavors and has a good balance of sweet and spicy. The balance between sweet and spicy comes from the cinnamon and earth flavors up front with some unique underlying notes of fresh fruit. The finish is moderate and simple with the flavors of fresh ground cinnamon and oak. I enjoyed this whiskey neat, with a splash, and in a cocktail and I enjoyed it all three ways. Adding a splash of water helped bring out more of the flavors in the bourbon and made them a bit more distinctive. Overall, this is a smooth whiskey that I would recommend to anyone wanting to try something new or the beginning bourbon drinker who is looking for a great entry level whiskey. There are numerous new startups on the scene and some are hits and some are a miss, this one is a hit in my opinion.
History: J.R. Revelry is produced by La Bodega Internacional (LBI) out of Atlanta, Georgia but begins in Lawrenceburg, IN at the old Seagram Distillery. Their team in Nashville crafts all the bottles and the packaging materials. There is a short video here that explains the whiskey and story in full detail.
