Name: Barrell Bourbon Batch 005
Nose: Vanilla, Maple Syrup, Molasses, Oak
Palate: Dry Oak, Smoke, Cherries, Dark Chocolate
Finish: Moderate with a slight spice flavor and sweet maple syrup
Overall: This review is specifically for Barrell Bourbon batch number 005 bottle number 4577. The nose is a mixture of vanilla, maple syrup, and molasses with a hint of a light wood aroma. On the palate there is a dry smoky oak flavor up front with some tart cherries and dark chocolate flavors playing together. The finish is moderate with a slight spice and sweet maple syrup flavor. There is a dry aftertaste that slowly lingers. Overall, this is another solid product from Barrell Bourbon. Like the previous reviews we did, the higher proof doesn’t overpower the rich flavors which is one of the main reasons I enjoyed these whiskies. I enjoyed the simplicity with this one. From the nose to the finish it is straightforward and simple. The cherries and dark chocolate flavors reminded of chocolate covered cherries and the dry oak flavor made the flavors a bit more distinct. There wasn’t a lot of spice with this whiskey even though it has a higher proof and overall it is very smooth. I enjoyed sipping this bourbon neat with just a few minutes in the glass to open up before the first sip and immediately after finishing I was ready for another glass. Barrel Craft Spirits has been producing some solid products and I’m proud to have them on my shelf. Barrell Bourbon Batch 005 is aged for 8 years and 3 months. If you have not had the chance to pick up a bottle of Barrell Bourbon I highly recommend doing so, you won’t be disappointed.
