Double Oaked Bourbon & Salted Brown Sugar Caramel candle from Sydney Hale Co. I must admit that I am not much of a candle burner, but once this was suggested from one our readers that it was incredible I decided to try it myself. It's got a great scent to it and a 50 hour burn time.

Rowan's Creek is one of my favorite bourbons. 12 years old and full of flavor. Has been my go to bourbon for years and although most have had this, it still makes a great gift year after year.

A Stanley Thermos is about as classic as you can get. I can remember taking vacations as a child and my Father having his green Stanley filled with coffee sitting between the seats. They've come a long way with their design but have always remained the same with quality. I carry one of these everyday of my life and it has always kept whatever I'm drinking piping hot or ice cold. Jim Beam Maple Review

Jim Beam Maple Our Rating: 81%

Jim Beam Maple

Name: Jim Beam Maple

Bottled By: Beam Inc.

ABV: 35%

Proof: 70

Age: N/A

Notes: On the nose there is a strong maple scent, like smelling pancakes in the morning. At first sip we tasted a sweet, maple syrup taste, with a nice oak flavor with hints of vanilla and caramel. Jim Beam Maple is just the right amount of sweet maple flavor without being too thick. You can really taste the whiskey in this one which is good as the maple flavor doesn’t overpower it. The finish is moderate with maple, oak, and vanilla flavors with a touch of spice and cinnamon. The after taste is what brought our rating down with this one, it seemed to linger a little longer than I prefer and had a somewhat stale taste to it. Overall this is a good maple whiskey that would probably be enjoyed best in a cocktail.

November 2013 Whiskey of the Month

November 2013

We are very pleased to announce that Templeton Rye has been selected as our November 2013 Whiskey of the Month. Please see our full review below. If you haven’t had the pleasure of trying this yet, I would highly recommend it. Enjoy!

Templeton Rye

Name: Templeton Rye

Bottled By: Lawrenceburg Distillers Indiana

ABV: 40%

Proof: 80

Age: N/A

Our Rating: 96%

Notes: Templeton Rye has a nice sweet and spicy scent with notes of fresh fruit, rye, caramel, vanilla, and mint. At first sip, I could taste the rye upfront with a faint sweet honey or syrup taste which makes way for some spice to come into play, pepper and cinnamon. This whiskey has a nice sweet taste which allows it to stay mild without a lot of bite. The finish is bold, crisp, with some sweet honey, oak, and mint, that lingers slightly but not too long. This is a delicious whiskey and very smooth, most likely due to the low proof. I tried this neat and in a cocktail, and I prefer it neat. Don’t be turned away by the price tag, in my opinion it is worth the price, it’s something different than the everyday sipper, and would be a great addition to any whiskey lovers’ shelf.

October 2013 Whiskey of the Month

October 2013

High West Campfire Whiskey

Name: High West Campfire Whiskey

ABV: 46%

Proof: 92

Our Rating: 93%

Notes: Nose: spicy, sweet, woodsy, and some peat smoke notes.

Palate: A pleasant and sweet vanilla taste, with some fruit and spice, cinnamon and clove, and rye which fades to allow the peat and smoky taste to come in.

Finish: Moderate with some delicious light smoke and peat taste with just the right hint of vanilla.

This whiskey is excellent. It has a great consistency and has the perfect amount of smoky and sweet tastes. It can usually be picked up for around $50 a bottle. Sip this one neat.

Notes: Black Ridge bourbon has a pleasant oak, vanilla, and fruit scent. Black Ridge bourbon starts off with a subtle oak taste with hints of vanilla and caramel. It is very smooth with just the right amount of spice. The finish is moderate with a nice almond taste and just a little bite. Jameson Irish Whiskey Review

Jameson Irish Whiskey Our Rating: 87%

Jameson Irish Whiskey

Name: Jameson Irish Whiskey

ABV: 40%

Proof: 80

Notes: Jameson’s has a sweet grain and light oak scent. On the palate we can taste the grains and oak but with a slight spicy taste. The finish is moderate with a honey, vanilla, and smoky grain taste that slowly fades away. Jameson is another great bargain Irish whiskey. It is widely available and inexpensive. It can hold up in a number of different cocktails as well as on the rocks. I preferred the taste of Jameson’s over Bushmill’s but both are enjoyable Irish whiskeys. This is one that I keep stocked at the bar for when I want a change from bourbon and for the friend who prefers other whiskeys over bourbon.
