Notes: W.L. Weller is a great entry level wheat bourbon similar to Maker’s Mark. You will notice a pleasant oak, raisin, and maple syrup scent. At first sip you will taste the oak and syrup right away, as those flavors fade you will be hit with a raisin and pecan taste which will fade to a nice sweet finish that lasts long enough for you to want more. This bourbon has the perfect consistency. This bourbon is not as smooth as Maker’s Mark but it is definitely a good alternative for the price. Although some mix this one with coke, we feel it is best over ice. This is a value bourbon and can be purchased between $10 and $15 dollars at most retailers. A great wheat bourbon for the beginner.
History: W.L. Weller takes its name from William Larue Weller, who was a bourbon whiskey distiller in the early days of Kentucky. He is famous for allegedly being the first to produce bourbon with wheat instead of rye.
