Name: Thistle Finch Small Batch White Rye Whiskey
Bottled By: Thistle Finch Distillery
ABV: 40%
Proof: 80
Notes: On the nose Thistle Finch White Rye has a strong corn scent with some fruit notes and a subtle cedar aroma. On the palate Thistle Finch White Rye delivers an amazing burst of flavors. Corn is the most noticeable flavor with lemon, apricots, ginger, cherries, and wood and grain notes in the background. All of the flavors are genuine and full bodied and compliment each other well. The finish is long and smooth with the same familiar corn flavor with some warm vanilla and tart cherry flavors lingering. This is an excellent whiskey. From the unique aroma to the rich complex flavor profile, I really enjoyed Thistle Finch. I tried this whiskey several times and really took the time to taste the flavors. I enjoyed sipping this neat and really tasting the warm, complex flavors. I also made several cocktails using Thistle Fitch and all were delicious and really allowed me to experience what sets this whiskey apart from the rest. Thistle Finch White Rye is a crystal clear whiskey with a unique flavor and one that definitely stands out. At around $30 a bottle this is a great purchase and one that I would highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a great whiskey to add to their collection or to share with other whiskey enthusiasts. I am already looking to acquire a second bottle.
History: Thistle Finch opened to the public Christmas Eve of 2013 and currently has just one product, the Small Batch White Rye Whiskey, but has started aging rye as well. Thistle Finch is currently only available at their tasting room, but will start making its way to NJ this summer and hopefully PA state stores towards the end of the year. The grain bill is 60% rye, 30% wheat and 10% malted barley. Thistle Finch rye and wheat grains are sourced locally from Lancaster and Lebanon counties here in PA.
I taste peppermint in Thistle Finch.
That’s interesting. A friend of mine said the same thing. How do you like the whiskey overall?
Having consumed hundreds of the worlds finest whiskey and scotch products, I can honestly say that no amount of overstated flowery language can mask the horrible ineptitude of this beverage. It’s just awful, small batch and smaller talent. Harsh to a fault with a sour corn after taste and an almost tequila aroma this product should be banished from production. It is perhaps the first liquor I have ever left unfinished on a bar, buy literally any other whiskey and count your blessings that you can do so.

I couldn’t agree more with Tom. After two sips, I dumped my first shot into a glass with ice and tried to drown it all in Coca Cola. That still wasn’t enough of a mask. Undrinkable is a good description. Batch 08, bottle 341.
