Overall: Unassuming packing and a price tag under $20 would make it easy to walk right past this single barrel offering from Heaven Hill. If you’re lucky enough to spot it, I recommend giving it a try. Vanilla and oak are prominent on the nose, which has a minimal bite. The bite, however, is more prominent on the palate than the nose and lingers a little long for my taste. With a few drops of water, though, this bourbon comes to life. The vanilla and oak become more pronounced, and a smoother finish brings out hints of caramel and molasses. The packing and website suggest the Evan Williams Single Barrel is one of the most award-winning bourbons in the world. While I wouldn’t give this particular barrel that much credit, I would say it is a great value with a classic flavor profile that I would happily drink again.
