Overall: This review is specifically for Barrell Bourbon batch number 007 bottle number 4984 pictured below. This whiskey is aged 5 years in American white oak barrels. The mash bill for this particular batch is 70% corn, 25% rye, and 5% malted barley.
On the nose there is a rich and straightforward cherry aroma with notes of corn and oak. At first sip I was greeted with a dry wood and sweet corn flavor up front and sweet flavors of peaches and cream in the background. The peach flavor reminded me of an old fashioned candy or ice cream with a genuine peach flavor and rich homemade cream. The finish was long and very dry with some light fruit notes, mainly peaches and plums, and a deep burn as it faded out.
Barrell Bourbon hit another home run with this batch in my opinion. This whiskey is complex and unique like the rest of their products. The higher proof shows through with this expression and provides a deep burn which I enjoyed. The dry flavors of this whiskey also stood out to me and was quite enjoyable as well as most of you know, I enjoy the dry higher proof whiskies. If you have been enjoying the other offerings of Barrell Bourbons, you will most likely enjoy this one as well. It’s another solid whiskey. If you haven’t had the pleasure of trying their products yet, pick up a bottle and give it a try. Let us know your thoughts.
