Name: Wild Turkey Rye 81
Bottled By: Austin Nichols
ABV: 40.5%
Proof: 81
Age: 4-5 Years
Notes: The nose is spicy as well as the first sip. It has a nice pleasant rye taste with some spice but it is smooth. We can also taste some wood and a slight charcoal taste with this one. The finish is short with a fair amount of spice. While not a top notch rye, it’s still a nice whiskey and yet another solid product from Wild Turkey. What makes this even better is the price, at around $20 dollars this is a great budget whiskey. We enjoyed this neat, on the rocks, and in a cocktail and it was great every time.
History: Wild Turkey Rye 81 has a mash bill of 65% rye, 23% corn, and 12% barley. It is produced by Austin Nichols near Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. Wild Turkey also makes a 101 proof rye but it is not as widely available as the 81 proof.
