Name: Old Hickory Black Label Blended Bourbon Whiskey

ABV: 40%

Proof: 80

Nose: Caramel, Corn, Cherry, Cocoa

Palate: Caramel, Vanilla, Butterscotch, Cherry

Finish: Short with a rich chocolate and tart cherry flavor

Overall: On the nose there are strong caramel and corn scents up front with the light aroma of cherries and cocoa throughout. At first sip I was greeted with the rich flavors of caramel, vanilla, and butterscotch. The flavors are rich but not bold and quickly fade to a tart cherry flavor. The finish is very short with chocolate and tart cherries that ends abruptly and doesn’t linger. The cherry and chocolate flavors were reminiscent of a chocolate covered cherry candy. This whiskey is a light whiskey with simple flavors. I tried this whiskey neat, on the rocks, and in a cocktail. I enjoyed it best on the rocks or in a cocktail. Although this is a smooth whiskey drinking it neat didn’t provide a lot of flavor. Overall, this is an alright whiskey. This would be a alright choice for a beginner to bourbon as it is smoother than most, not complex, and has no burn. A bottle of Old Hickory Black label goes for $30 – $40.
