EXCLUSIVE MAKER’S MARK® LIMITED RELEASE BOURBON: SEARED BU 1-3
Overview: For the first time in the history of Maker’s Mark®, the Loretto, Kentucky distillery is offering a limited release single stave finished bourbon. At just over 1,400 bottles, Maker’s Mark Seared Bu 1-3 will be the first bourbon Maker’s Mark has ever made available in such limited quantity. Developed within the Maker’s Mark wood lab as a potential second generation offering for the Maker’s Mark® Private Select™ program, this exclusive bourbon features amplified notes of butterscotch and honey, derived from 10 experimental virgin seared and sous-vide French oak staves. Seared Bu 1-3 is named after those experimental staves, and will be made available at the Maker’s Mark Distillery and select Kentucky retailers in 375ml bottles. Seared Bu 1-3 was created following the incredible reception of Maker’s Mark Private Select, a first-of-its-kind barrel program. The Maker’s Mark team has continued to experiment with new wood staves and cooking techniques that extract and accentuate tasting notes found in Maker’s Mark. The Seared Bu 1-3 stave, while able to yield an incredibly delicious bourbon on its own, did not entirely complement the other staves in the Private Select program. As such, while the distillery is not planning on putting this into production, they wanted to share what they had – a greattasting whisky, born from Maker’s DNA and finished with the addition of ten unconventionally cooked staves.
About Seared Bu 1-3:
• Seared Bu 1-3 is a limited release Maker’s Mark Bourbon finished with 10 virgin seared and sous-vide French oak staves.
• As with the five original Private Select staves, the creation of Seared Bu 1-3 was to develop a stave that would accentuate specific tasting notes found in fullymatured Maker’s Mark – in this case, toffee or butterscotch.
• Tasting notes include a dark, rich and creamy mouthfeel with notes of toffee and honey with a silky finish.
• As with all Private Select liquids, Seared Bu 1-3 will be bottled at cask strength.
Availability and Suggested Retail Price: Just over 1,400 bottles will be made available at Maker’s Mark Distillery and select Kentucky retailers at a SRP of $39.99 per 375ml bottle.

More: For over 60 years, Maker’s Mark has consistently made delicious bourbon at its National Historic Landmark distillery in Loretto, Kentucky. This handmade Kentucky Straight Bourbon, is known for its smooth and approachable flavor, which stems from the use of red winter wheat in the mash as opposed to rye. Fastidious about quality and its purposely inefficient bourbon-making process, the Maker’s Mark Distillery notably produced only one bourbon for over 50 years before the introduction of Maker’s 46® in 2010. In 2015, Maker’s Mark again brought true innovation to the bourbon industry with the introduction of a first-of-its-kind barrel program, Maker’s Mark Private Select. This bespoke experience allows retail customers to “make their own Maker’s” by finishing fully-matured cask strength Maker’s Mark Bourbon in a single barrel including their own custom selection of oak staves.
