Name: Jefferson’s Ocean Rye
ABV: 48%
Proof: 96
Nose: Pralines, Toffee, Nutmeg
Palate: Vanilla, Clove, Toffee
Finish: Moderate with vanilla and nutmeg being the main flavors lingering
Overall: I enjoyed trying the Jefferson’s Ocean Aged At Sea Rye. On the nose there is a sweet nutty aroma which reminded me of pralines. Toffee, nutmeg, and the pralines aroma made me think I was in for a sweet treat. At first sip I was greeted with a dry oak and a strong vanilla flavor. I could get a hint of clove in there as well and toffee from the nose carried over but rather subtle. The finish was moderate with vanilla and nutmeg being the predominate flavors. There were some hints of baking spices on the backend but again subtle as the toffee flavor. This was a darker sweeter rye.
Overall, I really enjoyed this one as I have with numerous Jefferson’s offerings. The aging at sea no doubt as a cool vibe and story to the spirit but more than that a different more unique flavor profile. Jefferson’s has been turning out excellent whiskies for years and this is no exception. If you are a fan of rye whiskey I would give this one a go. Although we drank our neat and on the rocks, this one would add some nice flavors to a well crafted cocktail. Big fans of this one!
