Copperworks Distilling Co. has released three new whiskeys, the company announced today

Copperworks American Single Malt Whiskey Single Cask No. 22-2

7 Year Five Malt Recipe

Single Cask No. 22-2 was brewed and distilled from Copperworks’ Five Malt recipe —a recipe developed by the distillery’s founders using their extensive brewing backgrounds. The Five Malt recipe, a cornerstone at Copperworks since its inception, blends pale malt with four caramelized malts for a rich, complex flavor profile reminiscent of an intense Scotch Ale. Following distillation, it was entered into the cask in 2016 and matured for over seven years in one of the distillery’s previously used American Single Malt whiskey casks. The use of a refilled cask ensures that the distinct character of the Five Malt recipe shines through, less impacted by the influence of Oak, allowing its nuances to take center stage.

Tasting Notes

Translucent pineapple in the glass, yet despite its paler appearance, it has plenty to offer up with bison grass, burning orange oil, cake batter, and aloe vera on the nose. The bright nature continues with sweet citrus and vanilla custard, bringing along some depth and florality with chamomile, shortbread, and Ceylon cinnamon. The cinnamon persists into the finish along with yucca stem, wood vanilla, and blood orange.

Release 049 and Release 050

These whiskey releases arecrafted from the Fritz varietal of barley grown in Washington’s Skagit Valley and matured over 3 years in charred new American Oak casks. They each embrace their own unique identity through distinct malting processes. Release 049 features pale malted Fritz, while Release 050 features Vienna malted Fritz. Experience the contrast in flavor by tasting them side-by-side – a rare opportunity to see the direct impact of the malting process unfold in your glass.

Release 049 Tasting Notes

A shade of shimmering titian in the glass, the nose greets you as you might expect with the waft of orange oil. Light wood accompanies it, along with unripe strawberry, ginger, and a touch of marzipan. On the palate, you’ll find notes of orange blossom tea, jasmine, honey, and an almost cake batter-like sweetness. The florality persists in the finish alongside piloncillo, sweet cinnamon, and red licorice.

50% ABV (100 Proof)

Release 050 Tasting Notes

Reflective marigold in the glass, Release 050 is a close relative to Release 049. The differences between the two releases really highlight what a difference simply kilning the barley longer can produce. Brûléed sugar, leather, old books, pound cake, and a subtle florality make up the nose. There’s a gentle complexity on the palate with notes of stewed apple, citrus zest, black cottonwood, malt balls, ginger, and a faint hint of coconut. The finish is long and lingering with notes of raw sugarcane, candied pecans, sweet fennel, leather, and cinnamon sugar that really tie this release together.

About Copperworks Distilling Company ~ 2018 Distillery of the Year

Opened in 2013, Copperworks Distilling Company is an award-winning craft distillery, tasting room and gift shop located in the high-traffic waterfront tourist district of downtown Seattle. The distillery produces small-batch American Single Malt Whiskey, a series of gins, and vodka, all from malted barley. Copperworks was founded by co-owners/distillers Jason Parker and Micah Nutt ~ both craft brewers with more than 30 years of experience in the alcohol industry. They built the distillery to answer the question: “How would spirits taste if they were distilled form superior craft beer (without the hops) instead of the typical methods of ingredients of conventional distilleries?” The answer led Copperworks to become a pioneer in producing American Single Malt Whiskey, a fast-growing spirits category with substantial national and international market interest. Copperworks’ spirits are distilled in traditional copper stills that were specifically created in Scotland for the distillery, and for the distillation of each individual spirit. Copperworks’ high-quality craft spirits have been recognized with multiple national and international awards and the company was named the 2018 Distillery of the Year by the American Distilling Institute. In addition, Copperworks’ whiskey and gin have won Double-Gold medals and scored 94 – 96 points in prestigious spirits competitions. Copperworks spirits are found on the shelves of bars, restaurants, and retail stores through Washington State. Copperworks also offers tastings, tours, and other events focused on enjoying and learning about fine distilled spirits, including its ‘hands-on’ single-malt whiskey blending workshop. Copperworks was voted Best Distillery in 2023 Best In The PNW contest presented by The Seattle Times.
