It must be the upcoming Kentucky Derby that has contributed to the numerous views and searches of Woodford Reserve on our site and ultimately our choice for Whiskey of the Month. Woodford Reserve is a great bourbon and the official bourbon of the Kentucky Derby. We are very pleased to have Woodford Reserve as our May 2014 Whiskey of the Month.
Name: Woodford Reserve
Bottled By: Brown-Forman
ABV: 45.2%
Proof: 90.4 Proof
Age: 6 Years
Notes: Woodford Reserve has a nice sweet vanilla scent to it with some light citrus aromas. At first sip you will notice the vanilla which is very prominent, this will not fade but will allow a pleasant caramel taste to come through with a little bit of spice, reminiscent of black pepper. The finish is the real treat with this bourbon as it is rather long and has a great deal of heat. Woodford Reserve is a smooth bourbon with a slight bite on the finish. This one will leave you well satisfied but so good you’ll be wanting more. We think it is fairly priced for what you get and can be purchased around $30 dollars. Sip this one neat and you will be very pleased.
History: Woodford Reserve is produced by the Brown-Forman Corporation. It is distilled at the Woodford Reserve Distillery in Woodford County, Kentucky. Woodford Reserve Distillery was formerly known as the Old Pepper Distillery and later the Labrot & Graham Distillery. The Woodford Reserve brand was introduced to the market in 1996 and has been in production ever since. Woodford Reserve is the official bourbon of the Kentucky Derby.
