Cooper's Cask Coffee Review

Bourbon-Coffee-Bag-Whiskey-Barrel

Today we feature a product review and one that I was very excited to taste and review. Cooper’s Cask Coffee combines the best of both worlds, whiskey and coffee, and brings them together in a delicious and smooth drink. It all started when two friends met, Jason Maranhao was passionate about coffee and was importing and roasting his own beans and one day he handed John Speights a delicious cup of coffee. John was instantly hooked and a several years later he found a few companies that were aging coffee beans in used whiskey barrels. John thought to himself, he could do that and so he decided with the help of Jason to get things rolling. They have truly put the work in folks and one sip of this coffee will clearly show that. Below is our full review of Cooper’s Cask Coffee. I want to start off by saying a sample was provided to me by John and Jason for this review.

I began grinding the beans to a course grind since I was preparing to use a french press coffee maker. I poured the grind into the french press and added hot water. I gave it a gentle 30 second stir about 40 seconds into the brew process. I then allowed the press to sit for approximately 7 minutes. Once it finished brewing I poured the coffee into my mug and tried it black, which is how I enjoy most of my coffees. I also tried this with cream, which is pictured below. The coffee is extremely smooth, in fact, I’ve not had coffee this smooth. Being that this is my first cup of whiskey aged coffee, I’m not sure if that is something that is a result of the aging process with coffee or not, but it sure is smooth. The taste is very unique and a bit more reminiscent of rum than whiskey and there are some spice notes in there as well. It reminded me of a rich spice cake. There is a noticeably long finish and the aftertaste is the same as the flavor of the coffee and quite enjoyable. I am a coffee guy and by that I don’t mean I just go to Starbucks on a daily basis; however, I’m not an expert either. I do seek out good coffee, grind my beans at home, and always use a french press. Most of the time I use fair trade organic coffee and prepare it as mentioned above. Cooper’s Cask Coffee is a product I could see myself ordering and making a staple in my morning routine. If you enjoy a good cup of coffee that honestly has a unique flavor, then I suggest trying this coffee. From reviewing their site, it looks as if they will soon have a subscription service available to have the coffee sent automatically each month, which for me will be a great option.

Meet the makers:

Jason Maranhao:

My friends and family know me as a person of many passions.  One of my strong passions is for great tasting coffee!  My passion for coffee developed over the years.  In the beginning I would drink the office “stink” pot of coffee and throw in the cream and sugar to make it palatable.  Then I started with a french press at home and better quality beans while drinking it black.  It wasn’t until I started roasting my own beans where I truly found my passion.

I first started roasting beans on a frying pan on the stove sending the house smoke detectors into a frenzy.  Then I modified a hot air popcorn popper, and now a commercial roaster.  I tried all kinds of beans from different locations around the world.  Now we have ventured upon an entirely new level of the coffee experience, whiskey barrel aged beans.  The aroma and flavor is incredible with a intensely long finish!

I love taking risks.  Whether it’s starting a new business or pushing myself in the gym.  I’m in to motorcycles, building cafe’ racers,  health & fitness and having fun.  I am still involved in the tech field as a contract consultant in the software development (quality assurance) and web development field. This is how I met my good friend and business partner Jason over 15 years ago.

I’ve started several online business throughout the years.  It’s rare to be able to work on something that you’re 100% passionate about.  It stops becoming ‘work’ and evolves into part of who you are.  I hope to share this experience with others who appreciate an awesome cup of coffee.  Thanks for stopping by the site!
