Kentuckians everywhere understand that bourbon is not just a spirit for imbibing, it is a crucial ingredient in the tastiest cuisine of our region. That’s why the Evan Williams Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Cooking Contest has become a beloved, time-honored tradition for so many.
In its 30th year, the Evan Williams Cooking Contest is a platform for amateur chefs to showcase their creations in hopes of winning cash prizes and the chance for their recipe to be included in the Evan Williams Cookbook.
This beloved competition, on Fri., Aug. 21, will be judged by luminaries from Louisville’s booming Bourbon and culinary scenes. Judges include: Ashlee ClarkThompson, food writer and author of the book Louisville Diners; Dana McMahan, travel and food writer, author of The Courier-Journal’s Dish feature; Steve Coomes, food writer and consultant, author of two books including, Country Ham: A Southern Tradition of Hogs, Salt & Smoke; Fred Minnick, Bourbon expert and author of Whiskey Women: The Untold Story of How Women Saved Bourbon, Scotch & Irish Whiskey; Sarah Fritschner, food consultant, writer and coordinator of Metro Louisville’s Farm to Table program and Denny Potter, co-master distiller for Heaven Hill Brands.
Judges will rate entries based on originality, ease of preparation, appearance, name and contribution of Evan Williams Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey to the taste and aroma of the dish.
Shane Collins, DJ for New Country Q103.1, will emcee the event and Dallas McGarity, executive chef for Marketplace restaurant will demonstrate several of his own Evan Williams Bourbon-inspired dishes.
Evan Williams is the country’s second-largest selling brand of Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.
