Dewar’s has just announced the release of their new “White Label” Scratched Cask Scotch. This innovative whisky begins with a blend of 40 carefully selected single malt and grain whiskies. The blend is then returned to specially charred and scratched American Oak casks to mellow the liquid and release notes of vanilla and toasted oak. The result? A truly unique experience that can only come from one of the most awarded scotch distillers.
While searching for a way to easily explain this new take on the barrel aging process, Dewar’s began looking to companies who were also trying new and innovative barrel aging techniques. This led them to Portland, OR based company Time & Oak who were just coming off the success of their Kickstarter campaign, where they managed to raise nearly $200,000. Their product, Whiskey Elements, are designed to allow individuals to enhance, alter and customize their favorite whiskey in as little as 24 hours. These small laser cut pieces of oak expedite the aging process and allow you to add the most natural element into your spirit, the oak.
In Whiskey Elements, Dewar’s saw a very similar design comparable to the process used to give Scratched Cask its distinctive flavor. By allowing the liquid easy access to the oak, it imparts the whiskey with the natural sugars and flavors found within the wood accelerating the aging process. This miniaturized “barrel for the bottle” design was a perfect way to show potential customers the science and importance behind the Scratched Cask barrel, allowing people to physically interact with the wood used in the aging process.
In addition to their partnership with Time & Oak, Dewar’s has also launched their own interactive 360° video experience giving people the chance to see what goes into the barrel sourcing process from start to finish.
Dewar’s has launched a multi-city campaign in promotion of Scratched Cask featuring Whiskey Elements as an educational companion. All attendees will receive a free pair of Whiskey Elements and a complimentary “Scratched & Soda”. Events will be held across the US in various cities including Chicago, Louisville, New York and Miami. Event details can be found on Dewar’s Facebook Page.
