House Spirits Distillery Announces Plans for World’s First-Ever Airport Tasting Room at PDX

At a press conference yesterday, House Spirits Distillery and the Port of Portland jointly announced plans for the House Spirits Distillery PDX Tasting Room at Portland International Airport (PDX). When it opens in October, 2016, House Spirits Distillery will become the first distillery in the world to operate its own in-line brick-and-mortar spirits tasting room at an airport location.

House Spirits Distillery has been a fixture at the PDX airport for more than two years via its award-winning branded kiosk, which earned a coveted Airport Revenue News (ARN) Award for Best New Specialty Retail Concept last year. The new 1,250 square foot facility in Terminal C will expand the brand’s footprint drastically to give the airport’s 14 million annual visitors an authentic taste of Portland all 365 days per year. House Spirits Distillery’s entire portfolio of spirits will be available for sampling and purchase, and the company also plans to release a handful of distillery and tasting room exclusives.  The House Sprits Distillery PDX Tasting Room will also sell a curated assortment of merchandise that will allow PDX travellers to leave Portland with unique, premium mementos of their visits to one of the world’s most creative cities.

“House Spirits Distillery has been a leader in the craft distilling community since its inception in 2004, and the opening of our new tasting room – the first ever standalone spirits tasting room at an airport location – is an important step for our entire industry, “said Thomas Mooney, CEO and co-owner, House Spirits Distillery.  “Portland International Airport is an institution that shares our values and cares deeply about introducing travellers to Portland’s world class artisanal culture, and we are proud to continue to be a part of that experience in an even bigger way.”

“We are pleased to be able to continue our partnership with House Spirits Distillery and look forward to their opening and operating an in-line retail store at PDX,” said Chris Czarnecki, Port General Manager of Aviation Business and Properties.

In addition to selling spirits and other curated items, the House Spirits Distillery PDX Tasting Room will also host regular “mini classes,” designed to introduce PDX flyers to the House Spirits Distillery products during their airport down time.  Classes will be guided by the company’s own trained staff to ensure House Spirits Distillery will offer the same level of superior product knowledge and legendary customer service that has made its Portland tasting room a success.

The new retail experience is inspired by House Spirits Distillery’s brand new facility in Southeast Portland, which opened in November, 2015 and expanded the company’s production capacity sixfold.  Osmose Design, the award-winning team behind the new tasting room, has designed the in-line store location.
