We are submitting a post to Drinkwire’s Summer Roundup which is favorite summer drinks. We have two summer drinks that we consider favorites. First on our list is the Mint Julep. This is one of our favorite drinks because it is so refreshing on those hot summer days. The combination of fresh cool mint and the warmth of your favorite bourbon play very well together. Marlon Hall has two great recipes that we have shared with you before. Mint Juleps have become our go to cocktail this summer. The second of our favorite drinks is simply our favorite bourbon served neat in a nice snifter. This is our go to drink all year. In our opinion there is nothing better than sipping your favorite bourbon in the evening, while reflecting on your previous days and looking forward to tomorrow. Our Mint Julep Recipes are listed below. Enjoy!
Mint Julep Version #1 (muddled)
- 8 fresh mint leaves and the top sprig for garnish
- 1 teaspoon water
- 1/2 oz. simple syrup
- 2 1/2 oz. bourbon
- Muddle (gently press) the mint leaves, the water, and the sugar in a julep cup.
- Fill the glass with crushed ice and pour in the bourbon.
- Garnish with the remaining mint sprig.
- 2 to 3 fresh mint leaves per ice cube (if your tray makes four ice cubes you would need 8 to 12 leaves)
- 1/2 oz. simple syrup
- 2 1/2 ounces bourbon
- Slap the mint leaves between your palms releasing the essence
- Place the leaves into your ice tray. The mint will infuse the water, as tea does. Freeze.
- Put one of the frozen mint infused ice cubes in your julep cup add the syrup and bourbon and still to mix.
- Enjoy the slow release of the mint flavor as the ice melts.
