Palate: Banana, Caramel, Vanilla, Lemon

Finish: Moderate, crisp with a slight lemon and dry oak

Overall: The Hilhaven Lodge Whiskey is a blended American Whiskey. It contains a blend of rye whiskey, Tennessee whiskey, and bourbon. On the nose there is an upfront aroma of caramel and cinnamon with sweet notes of honey and zesty lemon. At first sip I was greeted with a prominent banana flavor similar to that of Jack Daniels with some caramel and vanilla flavors mixed in as well and a hint of lemon. The finish was moderate and crisp with a slight lemon and dry oak flavor which reminded me of a slice of lemon pound cake. There was no real burn with this whiskey and it was overall smooth and straight forward. I enjoyed this whiskey although I wish it had a bit more burn with it. This is a good whiskey but with a bit more heat I think it could be great. For this review I tried Hilhaven Lodge neat and with a splash. I preferred it neat. Adding a splash didn’t have a positive effect on the flavors. This is definitely and easy sipper and one I think you will want to give a try. A solid blended whiskey that is a nice change from the everyday pour.
