The Bourbon & Ginger cocktail is a perfect combination of sweet and spicy. This cocktail begins with a simple homemade ginger syrup and will be a favorite for all of those who favor the sweet and spicy flavors of a good ginger ale. To begin this cocktail you are going to want to prepare your ginger syrup. For best results we like to prepare this a day before but it can be used the same day as long as the syrup is cooled down to room temperature. Begin as you would making regular simple syrup, a 1/2 cup of sugar and equal parts water. Take approximately a 1/4 lb. of fresh ginger and peel and fine grate it. Combine the sugar, water, and ginger into a pot and bring to a boil. Turn the heat off and allow to steep together for about 30 – 45 minutes. Once cooled strain the ginger and bottle your syrup. Note: other ingredients can be added in here and herbs work well such as fresh mint leaves, rosemary, or basil for an extra bit of flavor.
For the cocktail:
Fill a pint glass with ice, add 2 1/2 ounces bourbon, 1 tablespoon ginger syrup, 2 peach slices, and fill rest of glass with soda water. Stir for 35 seconds, enjoy.
